Our core values and principles are what drive us. They are truly the foundation we believe in and the framework by which we conduct our business. We have a commitment to our customers that delivers value, transparency, and intangible results.
New client relationships matter, but we don’t chase logos. We put our attention into delivering work strong enough that clients call us again the next time a need arises — that’s the growth model we trust.
You’re trusting us with real budget and real business decisions. That trust only holds if the insight and results we deliver are worth more than what you’re paying for them — every time, not just at the start of the relationship.
We turn down engagements outside our depth rather than staff them with someone still learning on the job. If it’s not something we can deliver expertly, we’ll tell you — and point you toward someone who can.
A single aggressive negotiation might save money today. A well-managed client relationship compounds that value year after year — which is why a customer-first philosophy sits at the center of how we work.
Sourcing decisions are too consequential to run on gut feel or last year’s contract terms. We ground every recommendation in clean, current data, spend patterns, commodity pricing, supplier performance — so the strategy holds up under scrutiny, not just intuition. That’s why data isn’t an add-on for us; it’s a service in its own right.
Jonathan Spiess, Founder
Jonathan Spiess started Chain Chain Change to close a gap he’d watched companies struggle with for two decades: real, senior-level supply chain and procurement expertise without the overhead of a full-time hire or the cost of a big-firm retainer.
Jonathan brings more than 20 years of hands-on experience as a supply chain and procurement practitioner and thought leader, with a career spanning Fortune 50 corporations, private-equity-backed transformations, and entrepreneurial startups. Along the way, he’s managed spend portfolios approaching $1 billion, delivered more than 25% savings across many categories and engagements, and built strategic sourcing functions from the ground up at multiple companies. His work has spanned food & beverage, agriculture, food service, packaging, healthcare, beauty, pharmaceutical, tech, consumer packaged goods (CPG), and construction, with particular depth in food & beverage commodities, including direct, hands-on ownership of sugar and corn sweetener categories worth well over $100M annually. He has led supply chain and sourcing projects on the ground in North America, Europe, and South America, logging more than 10,000 hours in the field, and brings empirical sourcing knowledge of global markets, including North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.
Jonathan holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Science in Packaging Science from Rochester Institute of Technology and has been an early adopter of data visualization (e.g., Power BI and Tableau) and AI-driven modeling for sourcing decisions, turning complex data into clear, actionable insights that executives can digest and act.
Beyond the numbers, Jonathan built his reputation on the skills that make a sourcing strategy actually stick: leading cross-functional teams, coaching and mentoring junior talent through a structured, repeatable sourcing methodology, and presenting confidently to both internal stakeholders and supplier partners. He pairs that with a critical thinker’s instinct for risk mitigation, systematically eliminating sole-sourced exposure wherever possible, and the emotional intelligence to keep high-stakes negotiations collaborative rather than adversarial.
He started Chain Chain Change because he kept seeing the same pattern: companies needed supply chain optimization, cost savings, and risk mitigation but lacked the appetite or internal expertise to build a full-time function. Too often, the compromise was hiring someone junior to fill a seat, which solved the headcount problem but not the underlying business problem. Chain Chain Change brings senior-level expertise on an as-needed, flexible basis, so clients get exactly the solution they need without the overhead or the risk.
